Darrell Evans
Darrell started the movement to enable the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act passed in British Columbia – widely recognized as Canada’s most progressive provincial Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. This impressive accomplishment led to the creation of the BC Freedom of Information and Privacy Association (FIPA), which has just celebrated their 25thanniversary. Darrell was FIPA’s first President and acted as its Executive Director until December 2010.
Darrell was awarded both the Grace-Pepin Access to Information Awardand the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 for his long dedication and hard work to advancing the principles of access to information both in his home province and across Canada.
Darrell conceived of the Canadian Institute for Information and Privacy Studies (CIIPS) and continues to play a leading role in its operations.
